New Business Spotlight: Dough Pizzeria

Dough Pizzeria

Chances are if you hear someone say “Dough” around town, they aren’t doing their best Homer Simpson. They’re talking about the new restaurant in downtown Opelika aptly named Dough Pizzeria serving specialty wood-fire pizzas and craft beer.

All about the Dough

Dough Pizzeria is the concept of Zazu Gastropub owner Graham Hage, and both restaurants are located in Downtown Opelika. Hage said it wasn’t long after moving Zazu from Auburn to Opelika in the fall of 2015 that he first took note of the building at 104  S. Eighth St.—once Jimmy’s Restaurant.

Now home to the area’s newest pizzeria with a name that points out the obvious—when it comes to pizza it’s all about the dough!

The Menu

Dough Pizzeria serves both authentic wood-fire Neapolitan pizzas and American-style pies. Fun fact: the wood burning grill was imported from Italy! While you enjoy a slice of Italy with specialties like the Rita or the Farmer, sip on a cold, craft beer. More than likely, it’s a beer from neighboring breweries—Resting Pulse or Red Clay.

Beverages also include wine and the usual soft drinks, which the kids will love to pair with the traditional American-style options. While the Build Your Own is always a big hit with families, there are a few Dough Pizzeria specialties listed. The Union Pacific is similar to a supreme, and the Southern is perfect for meat lovers.

The Atmosphere

Enjoy a different kind of pizza in a different kind of place. A unique way Hage tied in the railroad town theme was through art—as in graffiti. After years of seeing flashes go by daily on the trains passing through downtown Opelika, Hage came to admire the detailed style and knew it would be as much of a staple at Dough Pizzeria as dough.

The bold graffiti art inside and out sets the cool vibe and upbeat music paired with delicious favorites—pizza and beer—take it up a notch.
