Making the cut as a top metro area during a pandemic is promising! For one thing, it shows that economic development in Auburn and Opelika remains a priority. It also means the cities continue to focus on industries and businesses that create jobs and long-term growth.
Certain criteria must be met to be in the database. Those standards include the creation of 20 or more jobs, a minimum $1 million investment, or 20,000-square-feet or more of new space. According to a recent article on al.com, Site Selection counted seven local projects for the rankings.
In terms of total projects, among cities with a population of less than 200,000, Auburn-Opelika ranked sixth . In regard to projects per capita, the twin cities ranked ninth.
As far as the state of Alabama goes, it fared well overall making the list for the magazine’s 2020 Governor’s Cup. Alabama ranked ninth in job-creating projects and missed the top 10 rankings for projects per capita by two.
