An economic boon to the community, the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center kicked off its inaugural season just this past August. The Gogue Performing Arts Center rests across from the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, bridging the plains’ two pillars of fine arts together.
A Center with a Cause
The Gogue Performing Arts Center is not only an economic buttress to a budding economy. The Center also grants an outlet for local, regional, and national patrons to come and enjoy the thrill of performing arts. High hopes have been raised for the Center, including playing host to dance artists, comedy acts, and even Broadway musicals. While affiliated with Auburn University, it has been acknowledged that the Auburn community may see an even greater impact from the Center’s arrival.
Worth the Investment
The Auburn community was intertwined with the construction of the Center. Auburn invested $1.5 million into building the Gogue Performing Arts Center, with an added allowance of $50,000 a year for three years in order to finance programming.
This being said, the city’s investment has already seen some returns. For the opening festival, the Center attracted ticket sales from residents of 17 different states and sold out tickets during its debut.
A Closer Look
Multi-purpose in practice, the Gogue Performing Arts Center boasts a lively entertainment venue, with ample room to accommodate guests. The Center can hold 1,200 guests—and houses a box office, catering kitchen, multiple dressing rooms for dancers and performers, and even office space for administration.
