Autumn means crisp, cool weather and gorgeous leaves dropping down all around us. In other words, it’s the perfect season to step outside! If you’re looking for some inspiration on where to go, check out the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center’s fall events. For easy browsing, we’ve organized this list into two sections: limited-time events and recurring events. Read on to learn more about what’s on the horizon!
Limited Time Events
AUsome Amphibians and Reptiles, Oct. 3
- About: First up on our list of Kreher Preserve and Nature Center’s fall events is AUsome Amphibians and Reptiles. There, you can see a live presentation, complete with actual reptiles. You can even touch them! If you want to attend, tickets will run you just $5, though kids aged 3 and under may attend for free.
- Date: Oct. 3
- Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Nature Walk: Bird Migration, Oct. 8
- About: Sometimes, we all need some relaxation. Step into nature on this adults-only hike—and keep an eye out for beautiful birds overhead! Attendance is free.
- Date: Oct. 8
- Time: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Fall Camp, Oct. 12 and 16
- About: School’s out, but Fall Camp is in session! Kids in grades one through six are welcome to attend. They can learn more about the world around them at this fun event. Tickets cost $50 per child, and they include snacks.
- Date: Oct. 12 and 16
- Time: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Family Discovery Hike: Bird Migration, Oct. 13
- About: Migration season has arrived. Hike through the Kreher Preserve with your family and potentially even see the trip that birds take south before the winter cold arrives! The hike is designed for those with kids aged 5 to 12. It’s completely free to attend!
- Date: Oct. 13
- Time: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Halloween Enchanted Forest, Oct. 23 and 24
- About: Celebrate Halloween festivities at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center this year! After a themed hike, complete with characters, you can go pumpkin bowling, get your face painted, buy a s’mores kit, and have all kinds of fun. You can find tickets for $7 online and $10 at the door, but kids aged 2 and under can attend for free.

- Time: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Family Discovery Hike: Turkeys, Nov. 10
- About: This month is all about turkeys—so it makes sense that they’re the subject of the November hike. Admission is free.
- Date: Nov. 10
- Time: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Nature Walk: Turkeys, Nov. 12
- About: November’s adults-only nature walk involves some turkey talk! And what better way to prepare for Thanksgiving than getting some exercise? Everyone can attend for free.
- Date: Nov. 12
- Time: 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Recurring Events
Nature Babies
- About: Your child is never too young to safely enjoy time outside in the fresh air. Take him or her for a walk and have a memorable playtime session at this recurring event. As for tickets, they’re only $5!
- Date: Wednesdays
- Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Tree Tots
- About: All kids are curious about the outside world! Let your little one experience the great outdoors at this wonderful event. You can get your tickets for $45.
- Date: Thursdays
- Time: 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Forest Friends
- About: If your child loves time outside, he or she can learn about the world around us at Forest Friends. Tickets cost $45 and include hands-on activities.
- Date: Fridays
- Time: 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Visiting Details
The Kreher Preserve and Nature Center is located at 2222 North College Street in Auburn, AL. When you visit, please remember to follow the rules of social distancing and stay six feet apart from those not in your household. You should also be wearing a mask! Finally, for extra peace of mind, consider bringing a mini hand sanitizer with you.
